Did a Storm Make Your Home Become Less Secure?

Alright, so you know after a bad storm, when everyone goes outside and checks the obvious stuff first? The fence, the roof, the branches, the bins that somehow aren’t where they were yesterday (totally normal, of course, due to the wind), well, all of that. And yeah, of course, that stuff needs checking. But sometimes the thing people miss is how the house feels after the storm, because yeah, it can look mostly fine and still feel a little too open. Well, this home is your safe haven, and yeah, it needs some guarding here, and Mother Nature can sometime effect that.

Like, there’s a cracked window near the side of the house; actually, that’s a common one. If you have an outdoor security camera, who knows? Maybe the wind had a big gust and blew it down; it’s not impossible to think. But the point here is that sometimes bad weather can affect your home and its security. So here’s where you need to check.

Don’t Just Look for the Obvious Broken Stuff

Well, yeah, if a window is fully smashed, that’s not exactly subtle. But storm damage isn’t always that clear. Which, yes, that might be fairly surprising to read here. But sometimes it’s a small chip in the glass. Sometimes it’s a loose frame. Sometimes it’s a screen door that still locks, technically, but doesn’t sit right anymore. Which is pretty small, right?

And it’s easy to downplay because the house is still standing, and compared to a tree through the roof, a dodgy window feels pretty minor. But no, really, if something used to close properly and now it doesn’t, or if a door somehow needs that extra shove, it’s worth paying attention to. The storm might’ve left behind more than just leaves everywhere.

Get Glass Damage Fixed ASAP

A cracked window can change the feeling of a room. Yes, even if it’s not shattered, but just a crack, and no, it doesn’t even have to be a huge crack. It’s just knowing the glass isn’t doing its job properly anymore. Rain can get in. Bugs can get in. Noise feels louder. The room doesn’t feel as private. And yeah, from a safety point of view, damaged glass isn’t something that should sit there for weeks while everyone gets used to walking past it.

All it takes is maybe one hit before everything crashes. If rough weather has cracked, chipped, or damaged glass around the home, a glazier can help repair or replace it before that small weak spot turns into a bigger problem.

Check the Doors that Got Hit the Hardest

While yes, sliding doors and glass doors can take a lot during rough weather, especially if the wind is throwing rain, branches, outdoor toys, or random garden stuff at them. So don’t just shut the door once and assume it’s fine. Try the lock. Open it again. Close it again. Look at the track. Check if the screen is bent or pulling away from the frame.

If it sticks now and it didn’t before, that’s not something to just mentally file away for later and then forget about. Also, keep in mind that even security screens can get warped or damaged.
