Design your home to inspire your life

When all is said and done, the way that we decorate, design, and structure our homes can have an immense impact on the way that we feel, think and experience life on an everyday basis.

For most of us, our homes are the most intimate locations in our lives — and they are the places where we spend a huge chunk, if not most, of our time.

While designing and decorating a home can include many steps such as looking up sofas for sale and going wallpaper shopping, it’s important to keep in mind that you can genuinely use your home’s design to inspire your life as a whole.

Here are a few ways in which you can do this.

Embody the kind of energy you want for your everyday life, in your home

All of us have a certain kind of “energy,” or “energies” that we want to embody and experience in our everyday lives as a whole.

This “energy” will be something that influences your mood, directs your thoughts in a certain way, and causes you to feel a certain kind of tendency, or motivation in one direction or another.

If your home is cluttered and run down it will naturally feature quite a chaotic kind of energy that will likely make you feel scattered, anxious and frustrated.

By instead designing your home to embody the kind of energy you want from your everyday life, you can make your home a much more innately inspiring and motivating place.

A bright, modern, well-illuminated and well-decorated look can, for example, make you feel more energetic, modern, trendy and active on a daily basis.

Work on your home as a way of boosting your sense of personal agency and confidence

Living an inspired life has a lot to do with enjoying a heightened sense of personal agency and self-belief on a daily basis — and putting that heightened sense of personal agency into action by being more proactive and bold in your life, too.

Unfortunately, it’s all too common for most of us to find ourselves feeling unmotivated and stuck in a rut of self-doubt from time to time.

Working on your home, and designing it with intentionality, can be a great way of boosting your sense of personal agency and confidence — and of reminding yourself of your own innate ability to be effective and outgoing.

Use the design of your home as a constant reminder of how you want to live

Whether you are running a startup business, are trying to develop yourself as a singer-songwriter, or are trying to stay committed to a fitness-focused and active lifestyle, it’s likely that you will need certain reminders of the path you should be on, from time to time.

Inspiration and motivation often depend in large part on external reminders of our dreams, goals, values and aspirations.

Using the design of your home as a constant reminder of how you want to live — such as by hanging up themed posters and photos, or setting up an artist’s easel or exercise station in a corner of your living room — can help you to consistently be your best self.
