1. Lighten Things Up

Kitchens often contain dark colours, black and brown tones, and earthy, rustic textures. While these can be lovely for a period home, they can be a little too heavy for a modern kitchen. If you’re looking to brighten things up a little, there are plenty of ways to do it. A splash of colour throughout your walls with a fresh coat of paint. Or some added interest with a wallpaper or mural, simple and neutral coloured tiles for the floor. And a change of light fixtures can be all you need to create an entirely different, brighter feel in your space. It’s all about making the most of your kitchen space

2. Upgrade Your Faucet And Sink

The sink and faucet are the most used appliances in your kitchen, so if you’ve got an older model, it’s time to bring them up to date. An older-looking sink can be updated with a simple change of taps and an easy replacement of the sink. Go one step further and consider tiling the entire sink with a colourful pattern or materials. New, modern faucets are inexpensive, easy to install, and can really make a big difference to the overall look of your kitchen. If you’re not great a DIY, it isn’t a job to fake it until you make it. Instead, check out a local plumber to get the job done right.

3. Refresh Your Cabinets

If your kitchen cabinets are a little older, you can make them look new again with some simple changes. You can change the colour of the cabinets with paint, or you can try a different pattern or finish. Cabinet handles can also be altered to give your kitchen an entirely new look. Cabinets are a great place to add a little texture and personality to your kitchen. Don’t be afraid to get creative and introduce some unique designs and patterns to your spaces.

4. Give Your Flooring A Makeover

If you have a wood floor, it may be time to change it up a little. Especially if it’s in a darker shade. Floor tiles are a great, inexpensive way to change your flooring, and they can really change the overall look and feel of the room. You can choose from various colours and patterns to fit your home’s style. And you can even find some that replicate certain types of woods, like parquet tiles.

5. Add In Some Fresh, Green Plants

Kitchen gardens were all the rage a couple of years ago, and for a good reason. A fresh, green plant on your counter can make all the difference in the world. It can change the feel of the room completely and even make your kitchen seem more spacious. Flowers, herbs, and succulents are the best options because they last a long time and have low maintenance. Choose your plant based on where it will be positioned in your kitchen.

6. Don’t Forget To Add An Element Of Surprise

Finally, don’t forget to add in a little bit of surprise. This can be anything from a unique light fixture to a bold piece of artwork. What you do doesn’t matter as much as how you make a change. These five tips will have you falling in love with your kitchen again. So what are you waiting for? Get started today!

I wish we could afford to have our cabinets redone. They are builder-grade wood and it feels dark in the kitchen. It’s in the middle of the house so not much natural light which also makes it hard to grow any plants in there. I try to lighten it up a bit with the decorations we have.

I love to use fresh green herbs in the kitchen, like basil or mint, they make everything looks so fresh.

We’re in the process of doing a little revamp on our kitchen. Our budget is small, so we’re painting the cabinets to give them a new, fresh look.

Great tips! Last year I added in a new faucet/handles because our old set was super old and I replaced the sink sprayer as well, along with adding some fake title to the backsplash of the kitchen wall and it really made a difference.

Definitely in need of a kitchen makeover. I wish I had more time to tackle projects like this but I’d love to somehow add more light to my kitchen by extending it and adding a skylight. The brighter the better. Great tips!
